HOW TO PLAY

  1. Register and submit a valid decklist prior to the published start time.

  2. Join the PTCGL League Discord Server. We use Discord for event updates and player communication.

  3. Matches are played on the Pokemon TCG Live application.

  4. This event features flexible 3-Day Rounds and will progress over the course of several weeks. You will have three days to coordinate and complete your match against each opponent.

DECK RULES

Your deck must be legal in the TCG's Standard format. You must also follow the custom rules provided below:

Each card in your deck must include text that mentions a coin flip(s).

  • Exemptions:
    • Each player may include one card (up to 4 copies) in their deck that does not meet the criteria above.
    • Basic Energy is also allowed (no restrictions).

STRUCTURE & POINTS SYSTEM

Tournament Structure: Swiss (3-day rounds) with the top 8 advancing to a single-elimination bracket.

Note: This tournament uses a points system for your series against each opponent. Matches are set to BO1 on Limitless, but in many cases you will need to play more than one game to determine a winner. Players should keep track of their points as detailed below.

When you are paired with an opponent, you will play any amount of games required until one player has reached the necessary number of “points” to claim the match victory:

  • Rounds 1-5 (Swiss): 2 points
  • Round 6 (Top Cut): 3 points
  • Round 7 (Semifinals): 4 points
  • Round 8 (Finals): 5 points

When a player achieves victory per the Pokemon TCG's usual rules (from taking all their prize cards or via an alternate win condition), they earn 1 point. If the winning player also flipped more HEADS than their opponent during that game, they earn 1 additional point....
Winning Game = 1 Point
Winning Game with more HEADS flipped = 2 Points
Losing Game = 0 Points

We use the "Coin Flips Won" value on the match summary screen - it shows the number of heads flipped by each player during gameplay; it does not include the coin flip determining who goes first.

You are expected to take a screenshot of the victory/defeat screen after each game -- it will show how many Coin Flips Won each player had during the game.

TOURNAMENT POLICIES

3-Day Rounds / 24-Hour Check In: Once a new round is paired all players will have 3 days to complete the match with their opponent. You MUST complete check in and initiate contact with your opponent within the first 24 hours. If you are missing matches/check-ins or are non-responsive to messages from your opponent, you may be dropped without warning at the organizer's discretion.

Going First/Second: The winner of the coin flip decides who goes first for Game 1.  For any additional games, the loser of the prior game gets to decide who goes first.  (In cases where the winner of the previous game wins the coin flip and selects the wrong option by accident, the opponent is entitled to request a restart of the affected game.)

Game Loss Due to Connectivity/App Issues or Player Mistakes: It is league policy that each game that is initiated should count toward the match outcome. Some unfortunate situations may arise during gameplay — a player’s game may end or become unresponsive due to internet or app issues, the player may choose the wrong deck, etc. In those cases, that player should accept the game loss.

Incomplete Matches: At the end of a scheduled round, any incomplete matches will be automatically scored a double loss (or tie where applicable).  If one player was primarily responsible for the match not being completed (examples: lack of reasonable communication, insufficient availability to schedule a the match, leaving in the middle of a set, etc), the organizer is permitted to give their opponent the victory.

Illegal Decklist: If a player is discovered to have submitted a deck that does not comply with the rules, they will be dropped from the event without exception. It is the player’s responsibility to submit a legal decklist in advance; no changes of any kind are allowed once the event has started.

Family Friendly Community: We welcome players of all ages. You are expected to conduct yourself appropriately and keep discussions polite. Inappropriate content in the form of usernames, language used in chat, or in any other context is subject to removal from the event.

Need Help?: If you have any questions or concerns during the event, use the "Request a Judge" button here on Limitless or get in touch with @rabidragon on Discord.
