DECK RULES
Players will use a different deck for each game within a Best-of-3 match.
- You will be asked to submit your decks via a Google form before the published start time.
- Decklists will become public knowledge once the event begins.
- You'll assign each of your decks as Deck A, B, or C. For each round of the tournament, the order in which players must use their decks will be randomized.
Every decklist you submit must meet these minimum standards:
- Your deck must be legal in the TCG's Standard format.
- Every Pokémon in your deck must be able to be put into play.
In addition, each decklist you submit must adhere to one rule from each of the categories below:
Trainer Trials Rules - inspired by the game's "Trainer Trials" mode.
You'll assign each of your decks to a different option:- Aceless
- Half-Year Havoc
- Twin Battle
Custom Challenge Rules - inspired by the themes of past league events.
You'll assign each of your decks to a different option (choose any 3):- Ancient v Future
- Deca-Duel
- Discard Dilemma
- Math Brawl
- Two-Letter Challenge
- Type Hype
You can use any combination of rules you like as long as you are using exactly one rule from each category. For example, a valid list could use the following rules: "Aceless" & "Math Brawl". You cannot use any rule more than once, so you'll be using 6 rules in total across your 3 decklists.
The general rules are below, and you can find complete explanations with examples on the Discord server!
Trainer Trials Rules | |
---|---|
1. | "Aceless": ACE SPECs & Pokémon with a Rule Box are not allowed. |
2. | "Half-Year Havoc": Only cards from sets released in the last 6 months (Prismatic Evolutions, Journey Together, and Destined Rivals) are allowed. |
3. | "Twin Battle": You must include exactly 2 of each Pokemon, Trainer, and Special Energy card name in your deck. |
Custom Challenge Rules | |
---|---|
1. | "Ancient vs Future": At least 20 cards in your deck must have an Ancient or Future stamp. |
2. | "Deca-Duel": Your deck must contain exactly 10 of each card type. (Pokémon, Supporter, Stadium, Item, Pokémon Tool, and Energy) |
3. | "Discard Dilemma": At least 30 cards in your deck must have the word "discard" in its effect text. |
4. | "Math Brawl": Every Pokémon in your deck must have a +, -, or x symbol in its attack damage. Every Trainer in your deck must have a number in its effect text. |
5. | "Two-Letter Challenge": Choose any 2 letters of the English alphabet. Every card name in your deck must begin with either of those letters. (You are allowed to include one exemption.) |
6. | "Type Hype": At least 20 cards in your deck must reference a Pokémon type or Energy type in its effect text. |
STRUCTURE
Swiss System: You will be paired with a new opponent each round and your goal is to earn as many wins/points as possible.
- A match win is worth 1 point.
- A match loss or draw is worth 0 pts.
Top Cut: At the end of the Swiss period, the top players will advance to a single-elimination bracket.
Best-of-3: All matches in this tournament are best-of-three games. This means you will play up to three games against each opponent; the first player to win two games is declared the match winner.
3-Day Rounds | 24-Hour Check-In Period
Once a new round is paired all players will have 3 days to complete the match with their opponent.
You MUST complete check in and initiate contact with your opponent within the first 24 hours. A missed check in with no sign of communication is a match loss.
TOURNAMENT POLICIES
Proof of Match Result: It is recommended that players take a screenshot of the victory screen for each game. You should keep these until the end of the tournament in case there is a dispute.
Going First/Second: The winner of the coin flip decides who goes first for Game 1. For Games 2 & 3, the loser of the prior game gets to decide who goes first. (In cases where the winner of the previous game wins the coin flip and selects the wrong option by accident, the opponent is entitled to request a restart of the affected game.)
Missed Check In: In order to have as many active pairings as possible each round, players who miss check in should expect to be dropped. If you miss a check in by mistake but intend to continue playing in the event, please contact @Rabidragon on Discord and let him know you would like to be paired in future rounds.
Incomplete Matches: At the end of a scheduled round, the organizer will assess any situations where a match was not completed. If one player was primarily responsible for the match not being completed (examples: lack of reasonable communication, insufficient availability, not being present at an agreed upon time, leaving in the middle of a best-of-3 set), the organizer is permitted to give their opponent the victory. Extensions may be granted under certain circumstances, but players should generally expect match deadlines to be enforced.
Connectivity Issues: It is league policy that each game that is initiated should count toward the match outcome. Some unfortunate situations may arise where a player’s game becomes unresponsive due to internet or app issues. In those cases, that player should accept the game loss.
Game Loss Due to Incorrect Deck: If the player is using the wrong deck, they should take the loss for that single game and then complete the remainder of the best-of-3 match using the correct deck(s).
Illegal Decklist: If a player submits a deck that does not comply with the rules, they will be dropped from the event. There are no changes to decklists once the event has started.
Dropping from the Event: If you no longer wish to be paired in future rounds, please go to your dashboard and click the red "Drop"button.
Family Friendly Community: We welcome players of all ages. You are expected to conduct yourself appropriately and keep discussions polite. Inappropriate content in the form of usernames, language used in chat, or in any other context is subject to removal from the event.
Staff Rulings: Any tournament staff for our league's events may take actions and make rulings consistent with the spirit of the game and in the best interest of fair play.
Need Help?: If you have any questions or concerns during the event, use the "Request a Judge" button here on Limitless or get in touch with @Rabidragon on Discord. Since this is a flexible schedule event, please allow a few hours for a response.
