HOW TO PLAY
Matches are played on the Pokémon TCG Pocket application.
This event features flexible 3-Day Rounds and will progress over the course of several weeks. You will have three days to coordinate and complete your match against each opponent.
It is highly recommended that all players take screenshots of their match victory screens, and of any potential special gameplay rule violations (see below)
Please read all details below for more information about the tournament's structure and policies.
GAMEPLAY RULES
Special Gameplay Rule: You may NOT Knock Out the Pokemon in your opponent's Active Spot!
The primary way to win these battles will be to deal damage and Knock Out Pokemon on your opponent's bench.
- You are allowed to damage Pokemon in your opponent's Active Spot, however Knocking Out that Pokemon will result in an automatic game loss.
- Exception: If your opponent has no Pokemon on the Bench, you can Knock Out the Active Pokemon and win the battle.
- Poison and Burn follow the same logic as above. You may deal chip damage, and can even have Poison/Burn KO your opponent's Active Pokemon only if they do not have any benched Pokemon. If your opponent's Active Pokemon gets Knocked Out by Poison or Burn and they have Pokemon remaining on the bench, it will result in an automatic game loss.
DECK RULES
There are no restrictions on the cards you may bring in this event. As long as the deck is valid in the app you can be as creative as you want.
You must submit a decklist prior to the start time. You will use that deck for the duration of the event.
Specific Pokemon Rulings: All of the cards remain legal, but be aware of any stipulation that comes along with using them-
Grapploct: This card deals 70 damage, then forces a switch. If the 70 damage Knocks Out a Pokemon, it will be counted as a game loss, irrespective of its switch effect after the Pokemon has been reduced to 0 HP. Use of Grapploct's attack on a Pokemon that survives is perfectly legal.
Genetic Apex Aerodactyl and Fan Rotom: The attacks by these pokemon remove the opponent's Active Pokemon from play, either putting it into the hand or deck. This does not Knock Out the Pokemon, and thus is perfectly legal for the rules of this event.
Regice: This is just so players are aware: Moves that have secondary effects of dealing damage to the bench will do damage to Regice. Damage is not an effect, and is not blocked.
Pokemon that deal damage to the Active Spot and the Bench (including Dragonite): These cards damage multiple Pokemon on your opponent's field. If the attack Knocks Out only benched Pokemon, its legal. If the attack Knocks Out your opponent's Active Pokemon and there are one or more Pokemon still on your opponent's bench, that will break the rules and the game and award your opponent that game. If the attack Knocks Out all Pokemon on your opponent's side of the field at once, it will be counted as legal and a game win for you.
Pokemon dealing damage to themselves: A Pokemon that Knocks itself out from an opponent's counter effect (Rocky Helmet/Druddigon/Poliwrath). or via damage from its own attack or ability will not incur any penalty to either player. (Knocking Out the opponent's Active Pokemon with one of these attacks will still result in an automatic game loss).
Dusknoir (akin to the ruling above): Knocking Out your own Dusknoir with its ability, regardless of whether or not it is in the Active Spot, will not incur a penalty for either player.
STRUCTURE
Swiss System: You will be paired with a new opponent each round and your goal is to earn as many match/set wins as possible.
- A match win is worth 1 point.
- A match loss or draw is worth 0 pts.
Top Cut: At the end of the Swiss period, the top players will advance to a single-elimination bracket.
Best-of-3: All matches in this tournament are best-of-three games. This means you will play up to three games against each opponent; the first player to win two games is declared the match winner.
3-Day Rounds | 24-Hour Check-In Period
Once a new round is paired all players will have 3 DAYS to complete the match with their opponent.
You must complete CHECK IN within the first 24 hours of each round. Go to your dashboard and click the check in button. If you fail to check in on time, you will automatically receive the match loss.
You should CONTACT YOUR OPPONENT ON DISCORD within the first 24 hours of each round. There will be a player directory provided for each event in the #organizer-updates channel so that you can easily find your opponent’s Discord name. If you fail to make contact on time or are not communicating with your opponent in a productive manner, you may receive the match loss.
TOURNAMENT POLICIES
Proof of Match Result: It is recommended that players take a screenshot of the victory screen for each game. You should keep these until the end of the tournament in case there is a dispute. In addition, Players should take screenshots of the game board and/or Battle Log if they believe their opponent has broken the gameplay rules.
Incomplete Matches: At the end of a scheduled round, any incomplete matches will be automatically scored a double loss. If one player was primarily responsible for the match not being completed (examples: lack of reasonable communication, insufficient availability to schedule a the match, leaving in the middle of a best-of-3 set, etc), the organizer is permitted to give their opponent the victory.
Connectivity Issues: It is our policy that each game that is started should count toward the match outcome. A game officially starts at the coin flip. If a player’s game becomes unresponsive due to internet or app issues, that player should accept the game loss. If players get an error during the initial match connection (before the coin flip), that game is not considered to have been started and you should try again with no impact to the match results.
Game Loss due to Incorrect Deck: If the player is using the wrong deck, they should take the loss for that single game and then complete the remainder of the best-of-3 match using the correct deck.
Game Loss due to Gameplay Violation: If a player breaks the gameplay rules listed above, they will forfeit that game to their opponent. Their opponent should take screenshots of the game state and battle log to report after the match concludes.
Tie Games: When a game ends in a tie, the player who had more points gets credit for the win. If both players had the same number of points, replay that game.
Dropping from the Event: If you no longer wish to be paired in future rounds, please go to your dashboard and click the red "Drop"button.
Dropped after Missed Check In: In order to have as many active pairings as possible each round, players who miss check in should expect to be dropped. If you miss a check in by mistake but intend to continue playing in the event, please Request a Judge or contact the organizer on Discord and let us know you would like to be paired in future rounds.
Family Friendly Community: We welcome players of all ages. You are expected to conduct yourself appropriately and keep discussions polite. Inappropriate content in the form of usernames, language used in chat, or in any other context is subject to removal from the event.
Staff Rulings: Any tournament staff for our league's events may take actions and make rulings consistent with the spirit of the game and in the best interest of fair play.
Need Help?: If you have any questions or concerns during the event, use the "Request a Judge" button here on Limitless or get in touch with @Tournament Staff on Discord. Since this is a flexible schedule event, please allow a few hours for a response.
