TurboBlaze Trials – Season 1 Invitational

The time has finally come! The badge earners throughout season 1 of the TurboBlaze Trials will give it their all and compete to determine the season champion!

The Rundown

  • 2 phase tournament: phase 1 will be best-of-1 Swiss with the round number based on attendance. Phase 2 will be a best-of-3 top cut; the number of players in top cut will also be determined by attendance.

  • Each round in phase 1 is 45 minutes with a 5-minute check-in period. After time expires, there are three additional turns (active player turn 0, other player is turn 1, etc.) - if no winner is declared after turn 3 then the match ends in a draw. In phase 1, each round win is worth 3 points, each round draw is worth 1 point.

  • Phase 2 rounds will be 90 minute best of 3. Same additional turns rules apply. In the result of a tie (i.e. game 1 OR game 3 ending in a draw), a winner will be chosen via tie-breaker; the player with the most prizes taken when additional turns expire will win the match via tie-breaker. In the event that both players have the same number of prizes taken, the player who takes the next prize after additional turns have ended will win the match.

  • During phase 1, first/second determined by coin flip/dice roll. During phase 2, higher seeding elects to go first/second in game 1 then loser chooses first/second in games 2 and/or 3.

  • Format is Gym Leader Challenge (link at the bottom for information on GLC Format)

  • You MUST bring a deck with a type which matches a badge that you earned during the season. If you won multiple badges in the season, you may choose between the types you won with but may only use one deck.

  • Rounds start once all results of the previous round have been finalized

  • Rulings followed according to Pokemon TCG Rulebook (see more below in “Rules”)

Legal Card Pool

GLC Format - currently BW Base to Pitch Black, GLC Ban List applies

Discord

Games are to be played in the TurboBlaze Community Server. Your round’s pairing number will correspond to the table voice channel to use for each round. There will be judges available for each event at all times – if there are any issues, questions or concerns, please contact a judge within the TBS Community Discord server.

Prizing

  • Prizing will be given to the top 8 competitors, will prizing improving with higher placements. The prizing to top 8 will be honored even in the event that top cut is only 4 players.

  • The winner of the event will get the opportunity to battle in the TBZ Elite 4 Challenge

    Proxies, Altered & Foreign Cards

  • Proxies are NOT allowed in this event. This is a different rule than our usual weekly events but the stakes for this event are higher and more in line with a competitive event.

  • Altered & Foreign Cards are allowed as long as they are indistinguishable from other cards – this means not marked or could be picked out from the deck due to thickness or transparency of the card back.

  • For custom/altered art cards, only one custom full art proxy is allowed per deck.

  • If using Foreign or World Championship cards, we recommend using opaque sleeves to ensure the card backs are indistinguishable.

Rules

  • Please remember to check-in at round start. If you forget to check-in, the match-making system will see this as an automatic forfeit!

  • Please, no cheating – it’s lame and will not be tolerated. We’re here to enjoy the game we love. You cheat, break the rules, angle shoot, etc., you’re outta here!

  • Please, be kind to each other! We understand competition can lead to frustration but let’s not take it out on each other. Aggressive and hostile behavior, bullying, discrimination, etc., during events will not be tolerated

  • Please maintain a clean board state ON CAMERA – this means your hand, discard pile, deck and prizes must ALWAYS remain on screen! This includes when shuffling!

  • It is a standard on Webcam to always cut your deck after shuffling your deck either when appropriate, either during or at the end of turn. Players may request a cut from their opponent after shuffling occurs as maintained in the Pokemon TCG Rulebook.

  • Due to the higher stakes of this event, penalties will be strictly enforced to avoid any potential cheating or rules exploitation. If you have a decklist registration error, this will result in a game loss the round it is discovered and the card in question must be replaced with a basic energy.

  • In-game infractions will also receive corresponding penalties. If a direct infraction from a player causes an unrepairable board state, this will result in a game loss. Repeat offenses will result in a match loss and/or disqualification from the tournament.

  • As we have done in the past, we will attempt to correct any technical difficulties with audio or visual feeds if these issues occur. However, if a technical issue leads to an unrepairable board state then this could be subject to penalty in order to maintain tournament integrity.

  • If there are any concerns during or after a match, please inform a judge/admin in the Discord server. Please remember judges have sole discretion over decision making and all judge decisions are final.
