Location: TBD
Tournamet Format & Rules
Legal Cards: This tournament will be played in the Standard Format, i.e. cards with regulation mark H, I,.. and onwards will be legal for play.
Round structure:
- Phase 1: Swiss Rounds, Best of 1, 30 minutes.
You will play 1 game against your opponent. Wins are worth 3 points, ties and losses are worth zero points. The first round will have completely random pairings, while subsequent rounds will pair you against players with similar / same amount of match points as you. - Phase 2: Top Cut, Best of 3, 60 minutes.
The top 4 players with the highest match points will advance to Phase 2. If there are players with the same number of match points, resistance (opponent's win percentage) will be used as a tie breaker. Top cut matches will be best of 3 games, i.e. first player to win two games wins the match. When time is called, players will have 3 additional turns to finish their game. If the game is not resolved in 3 turns, the player who has taken more prizes will win the game. If the score is 1-0, and the second game is not resolved, the winner of the first game will win the match.
- Phase 1: Swiss Rounds, Best of 1, 30 minutes.
Pace of Play: Players are responsible for maintaining a reasonable pace of play so that their game finishes in time. Players who take too long to make decisions, or are suspected to be stalling on purpose, can receive penalties at the judges' discretion.
Deck building:
- Alternate Language Cards: Alternate Language cards (Japanese, Korean, etc.) will be allowed in the tournament. However, in order to keep the tournament running smoothly, please ensure you are familiar with the translation of the card. You may bring a piece of paper with printed translations if needed. If you are confused about an interaction please call for a judge.
- Proxies: As some cards are difficult to get a hold of currently, up to 10 proxies will be allowed in each deck. However please note that the proxies must be printed and legible. Handwritten/drawn proxies will not be allowed. If your deck has any illegal cards or proxies, you will be forced to replace it with a basic energy card of your choice. We recommend using the PowerPoint method from Justin Basil.
Sufficient randomisation: Players are required to sufficiently randomise or shuffle their decks before and during games. We recommend using either mash shuffle or riffle shuffle methods as shown in this video. Once done shuffling, please offer your deck to your opponent to cut / shuffle.
Maintaining game state: It is the responsibility of both players to ensure the game state is maintained, i.e. cards should be played as intended. If you are unsure of any interaction, please raise your hand and call for a judge to clarify. If game state is broken (E.g. you played a card you are not allowed to play and the action cannot be reversed), you may face penalties.
Gameplay and rules: Please view the official Play! Pokemon website and familiarize yourself with the Pokemon TCG Rulebook if you do not know the rules of the game in depth.
Deck Check: Decks must be sleeved using card sleeves that are indistinguishable from each other. Sleeves must not be damaged or worn out to a point where you can differentiate it from the rest of the deck. Before round 1 of the tournament, your deck will be checked. It must match the decklist you have submitted, and the sleeves must be indistinguishable. We recommend carrying spare sleeves in case of wear and tear during gameplay.
We have a strict policy against cheating. Any players caught cheating will be disqualified from the tournament. Depending on the severity of the offence, we reserve the right to ban you from future tournaments.
