17–32 players → 5 Swiss rounds → Top 8
33–64 players → 6 Swiss rounds → Top 8
65–128 players → 7 Swiss rounds → Top 16

VGC 2019 marked the return of restricted Pokémon, creating one of the most power-dense and strategically demanding formats in VGC history.

Legendary powerhouses such as Groudon, Xerneas, Kyogre, Lunala, Rayquaza, and Solgaleo Essential support staples like Incineroar, Tapu Fini, Mega Salamence, Smeargle, and Stakataka

The format reached its peak at the 2019 World Championships, where Naoto Mizobuchi (Japan) captured the Masters Division World Champion title. His championship team, centered around Lunala and Primal Groudon, showcased elite-level control through Trick Room, Tailwind, Intimidate cycling, and precise positioning. With tools like Wide Guard, terrain control, and flexible speed modes, the team excelled at managing both explosive offense and long endgames 🇯🇵🏆
