📖 A Look Back at VGC 2015 -
NEW MEGAS, MOVE TUTORS and CHALK
VGC 2015 was a defining year in competitive Pokémon, marked by Shoma Honami’s iconic Worlds victory, the rise of new Mega Evolutions, and the introduction of Move Tutors in ORAS that reshaped the metagame. This was the era that gave birth to the legendary CHALK core (Cresselia, Heatran, Amoonguss, Landorus-T, Kangaskhan), representing the pinnacle of consistency and matchup flexibility in team building.
Mega Evolutions such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Salamence, Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Charizard Y set the tone for team identities, while support Pokémon like Amoonguss, Thundurus, Cresselia, and Landorus-T became foundational pieces that reinforced both bulky positional play and aggressive offensive setups.
It remains one of the most skill-intensive and strategically rich formats ever played, and a fan-favorite to revisit for both veterans and new players alike.
