💰Welcome to C.P.U.'s Pauper Tournament #2💰

Control Players Unite is a Pokémon TCG YouTube channel and Discord dedicated to family-friendly entertainment and welcoming all players of good will, not just control players!

Tournament Structure

  • Pauper format
  • Open deck
  • BO1
  • 30-minute Swiss rounds
  • Top 4 Cut

What is the Pauper Format?

Note: The Pauper format is meant to be played in Expanded, but we cannot play Expanded battles via friend request on PTCGL, so we are forced to play with Standard cards only.

Adapted from Justin Basil's website: https://www.justinbasil.com/league/formats#pauper

The Pauper format states that only Pokémon, trainers, and energies not labeled "rare" are permitted:

  • All cards marked "rare" (⭑) are banned (including all promo rares).
  • Only cards marked "common" (●) or "uncommon" (⬥) are permitted.
  • You are welcome to use art-rare versions of cards if the base/original card is a common or uncommon.

Think of it as building a standard format deck with non-rare, single-prize Pokémon only 😊.

Note: If you cannot be contacted through Discord, and your deck is non-viable due to the above restrictions, you will be dropped from the tournament.

Also, the Professor's Research from Prismatic Evolutions is a common while all of the others are rare! So you are welcome to use any of the Professor's Research cards.

Ban List

All Pokémon marked "rare" as well as...

  • Boss's Orders (all of them) is a rare card
  • Geeta OBF 188 is a rare card
  • Pecharunt w/the Toxic Subjugation ability (an oft-used promo rare)
  • Festival Lead Dipplin
  • Festival Lead Goldeen
  • Festival Lead Seaking
  • Festival Lead Thwackey
  • Festival Lead Swirlix

Also, the 70+ Pokémon on the ban list is a sample. There are certainly more!

Recommendations

Need a draw engine? Try Drakloak--it's an uncommon!
Need energy acceleration? Try Crispin--he's an uncommon!

Check-in

Check-in is mandatory before the tournament and before each round. You have 5 minutes to check-in and begin your round.

PTCGL Bugs

We understand PTCGL has plenty of bugs. If your game bugs mid-match, it is unfortunately a consequence of playing on the client (e.g., you cannot select a basic off of a Buddy-Buddy Poffin). The player with the bug issue receives an automatic loss.

A disconnection is also an automatic loss, except if the game disconnects on the loading screen or during initial set up. Please call a judge and have both players confirm and try challenging again. This only applies while setting up. The game won't be official until the first turn starts. Limit 3 tries. If the game is still not setting up after the 3rd try, it's a loss for the player with the bug issue.

Sportsmanship

Basic respect is expected of all players at all times. If a player is found to lie or else deliberately mislead judges, it may result in a permanent banning from all future tournaments.

If a player recognizes the wrong list was chosen during in-game set-up, please call a judge to make them aware of the situation and resend the game request with the correct list. Any coin flip decisions stay the same. Do not restart the game until you confirm with a judge.

Also, if a player has the win just take the win--no need to perform all sorts of useless actions, though such things are not necessarily ban-worthy.

Incorrect List

If a player sees that the list displayed and the list being played are different (e.g., a different number of a particular card), please alert a judge and provide visual evidence via streaming or a photo in the Discord. The player with the wrong list receives an automatic loss.

BEWARE: There is a bug that when exporting from PTCGL the wrong deck list is copied. Double-check your deck lists!

Make sure you update your lists before the tournament starts!

No Shows

If a player does not check-in for 2 rounds in a row that player will be dropped.

Also, make sure you refresh the check-in page (when facing a specific opponent) for a match. Sometimes the checkmark does not appear, and your opponent is waiting for you to send a friend and/or battle request.

In-Game Timer

The in-game timer must be kept on at all times to track slow play. The first time it is caught results in a warning, the second time and auto-drop from the tournament.

Slow Play

If slow play is suspected, please call a judge immediately. Any kind of slow play or taking advantage of the clock will result in a game loss. Slow play is incredibly hard to judge online, so please be ready with screenshots, streaming on Discord, and/or an 80-second recording of your game state. We prefer streaming on Discord if you suspect your opponent is slow playing maliciously but understand it is not an option for everyone. You must request a slow play judge call before your game ends.

Screenshot

It is helpful to take a screenshot of your victory post-match in case there is a dispute about your win.

Prizing

  • 1st - 10 codes
  • 2nd - 5 codes
  • 3rd - 3 codes
  • 4th - 2 codes
