Welcome to the Mario Cup! A private tournament for those that attend the local Markham Card Game store and are looking to continue the fun league nights online while we wait for IRL to start up again.

This event will be played in Standard Format with special rules.

By popular demand we will begin with swiss rounds, best of 1 matches followed by top cut (4 top players) in a best of 3 series.

The Galar Gym Leader Tournament has attracted the attention of other Gym Leaders from other regions!

You are a Gym Leader! You must play 4 copies of your chosen Gym Leader trainer card.

You must also play at least 2 of their Pokemon team from the video games. You must have at least 2 copies of the cards of those selected Pokemon. Your main attackers must be from their team. This includes:

Note: You can use typical support Pokemon that help you set up from PTCGO in your deck. They can also attack when needed but your main attackers should be one of the Gym Leader's main Pokemon listed above for the majority of the tournament.

Good Example

Houndoom is a great single strike support Pokemon to accelerate your single strike energy. Sometimes Houndoom may get stuck in the active or your opponent may be weak to Houndoom's dark type so strategically for that match it makes sense to move it to be your attacker instead of just your support. This is allowed. However in the spirit of the challenge you should try to emphasize the use of your main selected attackers throughout the tournament.

Bad Example

Shadow Rider Calyrex is a great support Pokemon to accelerate psychic energy onto the field. It can hit hard when lots of energies are on the board. You cannot have your two selected attacker Pokemon simply be sitting on the bench as a place holder for Calyrex and just plow through the tournament with Calyrex instead.

Who will be the top Gym Leader?!

Decklists will be open given the special rules will lead to unique decks

Have fun and good luck!
