VGC 2022 (Series 12)

VGC joins the Limitless Tournament Platform!

Hey everyone,

I am happy to announce the Limitless Tournament Platform now supports Pokemon VG Tournaments. The online scene has come a long way since the postponement of IRL events, and thanks to the amazing work of both individual TOs and Tournament organisations such as VictoryRoad and Desafio, players have had the opportunity to play in tournaments on a weekly basis. However, the tournament logistics haven’t improved along the way and registration processes can still be very tedious. For example, registration is often on one platform, team submission through another online form and then communication on a different server. Complicated!

This has lead to community efforts to gather and condense tournament data, projects such as https://twitter.com/VGCPastes and https://twitter.com/VGCTLadder to name the most recents ones. We want to connect and work with people behind those ideas.

We at Limitless want to support VG TOs and give their tournaments a new home. We want to create ONE website to host ALL VG events from various TOs, who can now profit from easier accessibility for players to find their tournaments. This website will keep track of results and metagame development, making use of all the team data that we have "lost" to online forms in the past. Discord is undeniably the best way for communicating between TOs and Players during the event, however Limitless aims to put all the remaining admin in one place for you to easily access.

The Limitless Tournament Platform has hosted over 1000 TCG events in the past two years including two Major Circuits. Robin has put together a guide with all relevant features for TOs on how to host events. This will be updated with more VG specific information in the future and as things develop. If you are a TO yourself and don't want to compete in our kick off event but would rather prefer to see the TO backend of things to get a feel for things first, then please do not hesitate to reach out directly and we will add you as a staff member to our first event.

After signing up for a tournament, players have the option to submit and resubmit their teams in the form of pokepastes. Your team submissions are private until the tournament starts, where the TO then has the option to enable/disable open lists where required. This feature can be used to run closed team list for Swiss rounds and open team lists for topcut. Enabling open lists automatically generates a tournament metagame overview. For Series 12, we are currently tracking team archetypes through the combination of restricted Pokémon. At the end of each round, the metagame overview will be updated with records for each duo. We will have information not only on usage of certain duos, but also how well they are doing both overall and in specific matchups. This can be a critical tool to help when teambuilding!

To test all these features, we are running our free to enter kickoff event this Friday, Jan 21st at 17:00 UTC, with a digital copy of Pokemon Legends Arceus for the winner. Here are all the information you need to know to enter this tournament.

  • Games will be played on Pokemon Sword/Shield.
  • Rental teams are allowed, check out Victory Road Rental Teams
  • The tournament will follow the Series 12 ruleset, check out this link for more information.
  • Each match will be played as a best of 1 game with a 25 min timer. 20 minutes to finish your game and 5 mins to set up and report the result. Results not reported within the 25 min window might end up as double game losses for both players.
  • Team list will be open to your opponents, a dynamic metagame analysis will update after each round with the results.
  • We will play extra swiss rounds and cut to a Top8 Bo3 single elimination cut afterwards. Final amount of swiss rounds will be confirmed closer to the start of the event.
  • We will have an initial player cap of 256 players and plan to play 11 swiss rounds followed by Top8 Cut.

This event will only require you to submit a public version of your team sheet, you do not have to submit your EVs for this event. This might change for future tours.

To register for this event, check out our comprehensive Player Guide with all information from account creation to team list submission and tracking of your participation and results.

Check in (required): Opens at 16:00 UTC Registration: Closes at 16:55 UTC Team Submission: Closes at 17:00 UTC
