What is this event?

This event is the 18th PokéStats Events Old Format Event! This event will be played in the Winter 2015-16 Expanded format, BLW-BKT, in a format similar to a League Cup with Swiss followed by a Top Cut. This format is best known for being played at California, Illinois, and Virginia Regionals in 2016 (https://www.pokemon.com/us/play-pokemon/winter-regional-championships-2016/tcg-tournament-results/) in the United States, as well as various other events around the world.

In the interest of making this event run smoothly and as a consequence of there being no easy way to check deck lists other than by hand, submitting a deck list that is not legal in BLW-BKT may subject you to significant penalties, such as disqualification.

Legal Sets

The following sets are legal in the BLW-BKT format:

  • ALL Black & White Sets and Promos
  • XY
  • Flashfire
  • Furious Fists
  • Phantom Forces
  • Primal Clash
  • Roaring Skies
  • Ancient Origins
  • BREAKthrough
  • XY Promos XY01 through XY93

In addition to those legal sets, Shiftry (NXD 72) and Lysandre's Trump Card (PHF 99 and PHF 118) are both banned.

How will this event work?

Before the end of Round 1, send 2 Chilling Reign packs to StatsReg on PTCGO. If you have not sent your packs in by the end of Round 1, you are subject to disqualification from the event.

Once the event Starts, you will be paired in Best-of-One Swiss Rounds, the amount of which will be based on attendance (plan for at least 5, but as many as 7 or 8), with a 30 Minute Match Timer. After Swiss Rounds have completed, a Best-of-Three Top Cut will be played with a 50 Minute Match Timer.

For each round, you will have exactly five minutes to Check-In before being given an automatic loss. In addition, once your game does start, we will be playing with pass-pass rules to mimic the Turn 1 Rules of the time which did not allow you to attack on the first turn, but it did allow you to play a Supporter Card.

In this event, wins will be worth three match points, ties will be worth one match point, and losses will be worth zero match points. Intentional Draws will be allowed.

Top Cut for this event will be "asymmetrical," meaning that there will be a fixed Top Cut, but if there is anyone that would "bubble" out of Top Cut with a record of X-1-1 or better will also automatically make it into the Top Cut, giving bye(s) to the higher seeds as needed.

Prizing

Prizing will be based on the size of Top Cut, with all of the Top Cut receiving prizes. In addition, approximately 5% of the Pack Prize Pool will be deducted to as compensation for the judges that help our events run smoothly. This is a sample structure for if there is a Top 8 Cut:

1st - 32.5% of Pack Prize Pool

2nd - 22.5% of Pack Prize Pool

Top 4 - 10% of Pack Prize Pool

Top 8 - 5% of Pack Prize Pool

Judges - 5% of Pack Prize Pool
